“Altavista On Track”, Altavista’s Community Development Committee has been working toward the revitalization of our downtown district since 2003 as an affiliate of the Virginia Main Street Program. We are currently working closely with the Town and the Chamber to support local businesses and to implement the Master Plan. 

Virginia Main Street is part of the National Main Street Program. The Main Street approach advocates a return to community self-reliance and empowerment in rebuilding our commercial district based on its traditional assets of unique architecture, personal service, local ownership and a sense of community.

The town Altavista was named a Virginia Main Street Community on June 14, 2007. The designation was officially announced in a news release from Gov. Timothy M. Kaine. This designation will bring numerous state-funded resources to help the town revitalize its downtown business district. The Main St designation is granted to 3 towns with populations less than 75,000 every 3 years.
