The lifeblood of Altavista is the spirit of generosity and giving shown by its people all during the year. This spirit is evidenced by the presence of many non-profit organizations and charities in and around the town. Following is a list of establishments that serve the community through the support and efforts of donors and volunteers, who freely contribute their time, money and resources to the betterment of the community:
Altavista Area YMCA
The Altavista Area YMCA was founded in 1971, making the community of Altavista the smallest town in America with a YMCA. Today the YMCA encompasses almost three city blocks and over 65,000 square feet of facilities valued at over $6 million.
Habitat for Humanity – Altavista/Campbell County
The vision of the Altavista Area / Campbell County Habitat for Humanity, Inc. affiliate is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from Altavista and Campbell County by building safe, decent, and affordable housing.
Minnie & Bernard Lane Foundation
In 1957, Bernard and Minnie Lane established the Foundation, which serves a wide variety of causes both local and international, emphasizing Christian relief and development, education and other causes.
